Coaching Biography
Veteran collegiate coach Nate Lambdin will join the Havasu Heat coaching staff for the upcoming 2023 season. Lambdin’s coaching career spans over three decades. He entered the coaching ranks back in 1987 under legendary coach Andy Lopez (University of Arizona) at California State University, Dominguez Hills where he also graduated and was captain of the Toros’ 1986 CCAA Championship team. Lambdin went on to serve as head coach at two Southern California community colleges. His ten-year stint at Victor Valley College netted him the most wins by any Rams’ baseball coach in the school’s history and his tenure at Barstow College has given him the distinction of having the highest winning percentage of any Viking baseball coach (.549).
Lambdin retired as Barstow College’s head baseball coach in 2013. Since that time, he has served as the commissioner of the Carolina Shores Collegiate League in South Carolina from 2016-2021 where he also held the position as head coach of the Myrtle Beach Hammerheads. Lambdin’s Myrtle Beach Hammerheads are two-time CSCBL Champions. Last Summer, Lambdin was the hitting coach for the Atlantic Hurricanes in the Ripken Collegiate League of Myrtle Beach. His team led the league in nearly every offensive category including team batting average and homeruns.
Lambdin grew up in the game. His father, Gene Lambdin, was the head baseball coach at Cypress College from 1967 to 1985. His uncle, Mike Scobba, served as the head coach at Fullerton College from 1961-1985 and was an international scout for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The coaching legacy continues in the Lambdin family as his son, Hunter Lambdin, is a coach at Northwest Missouri State University.
Lambdin now makes his home in Apple Valley, California, with his wife, Wanda Sue. He has three adult children—Madison, 29, Hunter, 27, and Montana, 22. In the off season, Lambdin serves as the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction at Lucerne Valley Unified School District.
