Rick Twyman founded the Heat in 1993 in Lake Havasu City, Az with his Father Dick Cheif Twyman coming on 100% within just a few years of that.The duo had hopes of building a national power baseball team that was comprised of elite college-level athletes and that is just what they did. Chief and Rick have shared their knowledge and experience with these young prospects for the last 22 years. Throughout this time, the Heat organization has been a stepping stone for many high school graduates, community college and university students. The exposure these students receive is often the only break they need to be scouted by major league baseball. In short, the goal of the Heat is to find talented athletes and help them with their transition to the next level. In 22 seasons the Heat has compiled 776 wins and only 162 losses. The Heat has helped hundreds of players move on to play professional baseball with different organizations. |

In January of 2011 the Heat family and the baseball world was dealt a blow when Chief Twyman suddenly passed away. Chief was a good man and did a lot for the community and the game of baseball. Rick Twyman along with the Twyman family will be living the Heat dream in memory of Chief. We lost A Great Man, a loving father, and a supportive General Manager. Chief will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.
Twyman and coaching staff run a structured and disciplined operation. They expect their players to represent the community of Wellington and the sponsors with dignity and integrity. The players are taught a sense of community as they play ball in the city of Wellington. They learn that the community and the investors gave them the exposure they might not have been given elsewhere.
The Wellington Heat strives to make going to a game very reasonable. There are several nights that are bought out by companies in and around the area. When there is not a buyout night, ticket prices are between $1.00 and $2.00 to get in. All concessions and beer sales are very reasonably priced. The Wellington Heat wants your entire family to be able to come out, have great food, great beverages and a great time!
In 2007, The Havasu (AZ) Heat went undefeated to win the 73rd Annual NBC World Series Championship and became the first team from Arizona to win the tournament. The Heat was an offensive juggernaut throughout the tournament, leading all teams with a .345 batting average and cranking out 11 home runs, more than doubling the previous team high of five. The Heat outscored its seven touranment opponents by a score of 71-20 with 40 of those runs coming in the first four innings of their games.

In 2007 the Heat was awarded Offensive Team of the Year and Pitching Team of the Year. Besides the World Championship in 2007, the Heat has had many accomplishments in the 18 years including the 1996 US Open Championship, 8 Pacific Southwest League Championships, 1 Jayhawk League Championship, 8 National Baseball Congress Regional Championships, 8 top 10 finishes in the World Series, and 3 “Most Popular Team in the Country” awards.
In 2013 the Heat relocated to Wellington Kansas where it continued the success it had for the past 21 years. The expectations are very high going into the 2015 season. This year’s team will feature the most talented baseball players from the best college baseball programs in the nation. The Heat will compete in Jayhawk league which will feature teams from all over the state of Kansas. The Heat opens their season on Friday May 29th, 2015 at home. Home game times are at 7:05 pm.
